Here are some steps to follow to score good marks:

Short notes over “Short notes”:

It must happen to you that when you start studying your NCERT book and with a highlighter in hand, you end up doing more ink-shed than you can handle. It is because every line in the NCERT book seems and is important. So, rather than making the notes of the theory given start reasoning the theory and make notes of that, especially in organic and inorganic chemistry because half of the questions in these are related to reasoning.

Manage your subjects with your time:

Believe it or not, every subject has its hour. The case with chemistry isn’t any different. We know that chemistry can be divided into three categories- Physical, Organic and Inorganic. Start doing theoretical topics in the morning when your mind is fresh. That means all inorganic, topics like surface chemistry in physical chemistry, and the theoretical part in organic can be done in the morning. Practice-based topics must be done in the evening or at night, whenever you get time off physics and mathematics.

Previous year question paradigms.

If you just keep your head under the textbook shells, the boards might make an omelette out of you. A huge and imperative part of your preparation must comprise of scrutinizing previous year papers’ pattern and what kind of questions are being asked from different topics. For instance, Aldol and Cannizzaro reaction seem to appear every time in the question paper. So, you need to prioritize those more than other reactions and practice more questions on them.

Prioritize the topics:

Do the important topics first according to the weightage and then move down according to the same. The following units hold the highest weightage for Class 12 Chemistry Board exams so make sure you do them first:

• Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic acids
• d-and f-Block Elements
• Solutions
• Electrochemistry
• Chemical Kinetics

The last three chapters might just be the most generous of them all. Why? Because they get an extra 10 on your answer sheet despite being short. The chapters Biomolecules, Polymers and Chemistry in everyday life are short and hence take less time but get you exactly what you want the most from a bargain- more for less.

Mock Tests

Although chemistry is a subject which is least talked about when it comes to change of pattern of exams or lengthy paper; it doesn’t mean that it cannot catch you by surprise. So prepare yourself with mock tests in a time constraint and you are prepared for the battle.
